Gallica BnF - National Library of France

Gallica is the digital library of the National Library of France and its partners. Online since 1997, it is enriched every week with thousands of new features and today offers access to several million documents.
  • Gallica is one of the major digital libraries available for free via the Internet.
  • It provides access to any type of document: printed documents (books, press and magazines) in image and text mode, manuscripts, sound and iconographic documents, maps and plans.
  • Gallica is intended to all readers, whether users just having a look, booklovers, students or academics.

The digital library of the National Library of France and its partners

As part of digital cooperation programs (legal sciences, art history, 1914-1918 War, publications by learned societies and academies, etc.), the BnF print digitization market welcomes a number of more in addition to documents kept in external collections: currently, out of the 70,000 printed documents digitized each year by the BnF, a third comes from around fifty partner libraries. The specialized document digitization market also allows the processing of external collections (concerted programs for digitizing manuscripts and portfolios), on obviously more modest volumes. These documents, once digitized and with an acknowledgment of the source, are accessible online in Gallica.
  • The National Library of France offers a Gallica iOS and Android application. This application, which can be downloaded free of charge from the App Store and from Google Play , gives access to documents which can be consulted in Gallica. It allows searches to be carried out within all the digitized collections. Each document can be downloaded in full or in part: the Internet user can easily build and enrich his own library.
