1860s Thessaloniki, Greece: The Great Wall

Limited to my phone screen capabilities here, but this wall is visible enough to justify posting this photograph.

The photograph is from here, and this is supposed to be 1860’s Thessaloniki, Greece. Or may be it’s not, for here is a quote from the above linked article:
  • Despite the excitement of the new discovery, many challenged that the city depicted is in fact, Thessaloniki, given that it bears next to no resemblance to the city we know today.

KD: wanted to offer this wall for your in investigation. This thing is too amazing to ignore. Who built, when, where, why was it demolished, etc.
