Request: Cast iron production in the United States 1840-1880

Was unsuccessful in locating any definitive information on cast iron production in the US between 1840 and 1880. Yearly production would be ideal, but in tens of years would also work.

Had a look on Google Scholar and there's not much. Uploaded a couple of papers, see links to PDFs below. The first one focuses on the US but no clear stats. The second one has pig iron stats for European countries during that period. I hope this helps in any case.

Edit: Not exactly what you're looking for but close. Cast iron is obtained by melting pig iron and coke using a hot air blast, so it can be used as a proxy. Production of charcoal pig iron in the United States in tens of thousands of net tons per year.

Thank you very much. :) That's quite a difference there. Pretty confusing this stuff is.

I'm inclined to believe the 1930 one, and not 2006.

400k long tons in 1850 is not really much though
