World War I: What weapons did they really use?

My question about weapons is a rhetorical one. We know what weapons were used. Some of those were pretty big, some were straight up huge, but still, would they cause all this? How much shelling does it take to cause that much damage?

Below are a few WWI images I googled out.

Here are some flags from the Battle of Tannenberg:
What's the two-fish flag?

Shelling a city to this degree makes sense. I understand that it was a trench war and all that. The sheer level of annihilation triggers stuff like this in my head:

Now go and strike Amalek and completely destroy everything that they have; do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.
Okay, off-topic a bit, but I thought some might find this translation as humorous as I did. From your link, here's The Message translation:
This is the God-of-the-Angel-Armies speaking: “‘I’m about to get even with Amalek for ambushing Israel when Israel came up out of Egypt. Here’s what you are to do: Go to war against Amalek. Put everything connected with Amalek under a holy ban. And no exceptions! This is to be total destruction—men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys—the works.’”
Sounds more like the boss ordering a pizza!

Hello Korben, did you saw the griffin in one flag?... that's a revelation!!!, thanks so much for all your effort...

Are you talking about the far right one? I am not quite sure what animal is on it.

Im sure, its a griffin, so much thanks, its amazing, the terrestrial and eterial mixture present in combat in recent times. The batlle of the gods continues still

Schoensee Commandery is the 2 fish to answer your question directly. Looks to have had been an impressive base. Ordensburg - Wikipedia

Since were on the topic, this always amazes me - The Monument to the Battle of Nations: The Biggest Monument in Europe It is dang near impossible to find on google. Like it is being deliberately obfuscated.

The flags (Banners, etc.) seem to be a great starting point to any in depth conversation on the topics of history. Here is some of the items I was able to discover about the 1410 battle of Tannenberg. Seems tat these battles were more hardcore capture the flag operations. "It's not a game Focker" comes to mind these battles of rich bashings their spare testosterone together.
