"In 1891 Teed gave a talk in Pittsburgh in which he captivated his audience with some of the practical applications of the power that would be unleashed when the governments of the world had fallen under his leadership. He proposed to employ a million men to build a six-track railroad from the Atlantic to the Pacific Coasts, planned to construct a pneumatic tunnel that would carry persons on nonwheeled vehicles from New York to San Francisco in twelve hours, and claimed to have applied for a patent for a device by which he could sit in his office in Chicago and set type by wire for every newspaper in the country."
