Thanks for posting this. I stumbled across this as a hoax over a year ago and was amazed. There was not a lot I could find on it as a hoax, but apparently it has grown. One chat room, in a random search, a lady said she personally worked with deaf AND blind children/people and had to quit after a few months because it was so difficult. It is almost virtually impossible to communicate with them, they are extremely volatile (as you probably would be if the world was cut off from you) and trying to work with them and teach them on any level was extraordinarily difficult and stressful with very little results.

Again, why the giant hoax about it? No idea. But it was most certainly a hoax.

How could a deaf AND blind person learn to speak? I remember learning in school about Hellen Keller. And I asked the teacher, if she can't see the words written down to read instructions and she cant see to lip read, and she also can't hear to memorize the sounds, then how could she ever learn how to place her tongue in certain areas to form certain sounds which she has never heard before.

If she said WATER.... how could anyone know it was "water" she was saying? Maybe she thought water means WET.
or water means COLD or water means MOVEMENT /TRICKLING ??

It simply can not be possible. The hoaxing used to be done to give Americans false hope and pride.

Now the hoaxes are done to ruin minds, hearts, and spirits.

It seems Hellen keller was a distraction hoax. And useful socialist tool as well.

I had to take speech lessons when I was little (I guess a thing they did in public schools in the early 80's?) because I apparently had problems with "r's" and "s's" (which I'm sure is common for 6 year olds), but the teacher had to teach me proper tongue placement, especially with the "r's". She used peanut butter a lot. BUT I do not think this would be what they could do with someone who had no clue what the f**k you were doing if they couldn't hear or see. No way. I had the "lessons" through 3rd grade then my parents put me in a private school, but I never talked any differant than most kids and the only thing I got from it is a Baltimorian accent (thanks to the teacher), there was a cute boy in there I could fight with the whole time, and I got out of regular class (why I took them for 3 years???) What a weird thing to look back on.

I had friends that took a lot of speech classes too 😉

My older sister was born deaf and I learned sign language to be able to communicate with her. When she got older she had 3 strokes which left her blind. I communicated with her by signing in her hand like the above examples. It was very time-consuming and frustrating for both of us. She was able to speak and sounded like any other deaf person trying to speak. From my experience, I'd say it IS possible but only because my sister had hearing aids that allowed her to hear a little and because she wasn't blind until later in life.

Also, mocking her looks is uncalled for. If you look at a bunch of pictures from 100 years ago, you'll see some ugly-ass women (and men, and kids). I didn't see an adam's apple on her and my humorous bone is longer than hers. If you want to see a fake female with a socialist agenda you might want to look into Michelle Obama.

That said, no it doesn't make sense that she was some philosophical wonder that overcame impossible adversity. If she had been older when her illness struck, I'd say it would be possible for her to achieve at least half of what she is purported to have done but becoming blind and deaf during the years you're just learning to recognize language pretty much precludes becoming articulate later in life.

I've thought a lot about it, I do not like to just jump on a theory and I never comment if I don't have some knowledge. It is the age that makes the difference to me. I just don't think 19 months, as you stated, is old enough to recognize spoken language. Again, it is all about understanding tongue placement. Deaf people can learn to speak because they can watch. You sister was able to overcome because I am assuming she was old enough to see people communicating, possibly even learning to communicate with sign language, and knew communication. Starting from scratch with a toddler/baby would almost be impossible. I saw the movie, I was moved by it. She was like a wild animal at first. Calming down and learning rudimentary ways of communicating will be learned, but not at the level they say.

As far as her being a man, no, she looks like a normal woman of that era. I think the transgender thing is getting a little out of control. Or a lot out of control.

Please don't think my comment was a personal criticism; nothing could be further from the truth. I was merely offering an observation as a person who has had personal experience with this subject.

No. I was agreeing with you and expanding my thoughts on the mentality of 19 months old.

The Obama are just plain sellouts with kids that don't look like them but mysteriously look like their friends kids😛
