Antarctica: melting snow reveals ancient human settlement?

An ancient civilisation may have lived in Antarctica, some experts claim, after melting snow revealed man-made-looking structures under the ice.

As the ice sheets of Antarctica continue to melt, experts believe that the lessening snow is revealing a mysterious truth about the South Pole.

Satellite images from NASA show a possible human settlement some 2.3 kilometres beneath the icy surface.

The images seem to show strange markings in the snow which look manufactured, and as though structures used to stand there.

Archeologist, Ashoka Tripathi, of the Department of Archaeology at the University of Calcutta believes the images are evidence of an ancient human settlement.

He said: “These are clearly features of some sort of human-made structure, resembling some sort of pyramidal structure.

“The patterns clearly show nothing we should expect from natural geomorphological formations found in nature. We clearly have here evidence of human engineering.

“The only problem is that these photographs were taken in Antarctica under 2 kilometres of ice. That is clearly the puzzling part, we do not have any explanation for this at the moment.

“These pictures just reflect a small portion of Antarctica’s total land mass. There are possibly many other additional sites that are covered over with ice.

“It just shows us how easy it is to underestimate both the size and scale of past human settlements.”

One theory is that Antarctica was not always as cold and covered in snow.

An ancient map dating back to the 1500s seems to show Antarctica’s coastline in unprecedented detail.

The map was credited to Turkish admiral Piri Reis and is aptly dubbed the Piri Reis Map.

Perhaps the most significant item on the map is the depiction of Antarctica – despite Antarctica not officially being discovered until until 1773 by Captain James Cook.

But even more perplexing is that the map shows the frozen continent much more eastern than it is today, and with less snow and ice coverage.

Despite numerous studies concluding the last time Antarctica could have been ice free was 4,000 BC, even the United States Air Force Reconnaissance Technical Squadron (SAC) believed that the mysterious map “indicates the coastline had been mapped before it was covered by the ice-cap”.

Historian and cartographer at the University of Cambridge, Christopher Adam, said: “One of histories most puzzling maps is that of the Turkish admiral Piri Reis in 1513 AD which successfully mapped the coastline of Antarctica over 500 years ago.

KD: Hmm, I don’t even know what to say here. TPTB entities have a flu? Dropping bombs like this, what do they have in mind?

Our pseudo-scientists are going to make a huge discovery-uncovery pretty soon.

Love how these stories are always encapsulated in 'ancient' it would be refreshing if one day an headline read 'as recently as 1500s' 😀

But yes KD, strange for a nuggett like this to poke through the net.

Is it though? The article from the first post was published in March 2018, so it's not new, but it does feed into several popular themes of recent years.

Cataclysms, cycles of destruction, etc have gained notoriety in recent years. We have people like Randall Carlson and Graham Hancock appearing multiple times on shows like the Joe Rogan Experience with its audience of millions.

Consider what the article is pushing. The final sentence reads “A slight pole shift or displacement of the axis of rotation of the Earth in historical times is possibly the only rational explanation that comes to mind but we definitely need more research done before we jump to any conclusion.”

Well, for many readers, you just gave them a conclusion. And they're far more likely to believe in the possibility of another pole shift wreaking havoc as has been bandied about on the net ad nauseum.

unfortunately express isn’t remotely credible, and they have a clear agenda. so the source makes it difficult to evaluate this specific article, and due to the cultural and language barrier between the west and India, it is almost impossible to verify the claims or even existence of said Indian researcher.

In general the article is in line with several observations made on this forum before, and in line with historical maps and sources there should be remains of settlements below the antarctic snow/ice.

The indications of an antarctica warm period without ice as shown by reputable scientists (albeit mixed with a mandatory fantasy timeline) is another strong sign for an ice free antarctic sometime in the past; that is, in the recent past, when combined with the evidence of our cultural history, in reference to the maps of our ancestors.

The expression 'fake it till you make it' comes to mind. I agree, they may be putting ideas in people's heads.

The UK article jibes with reports by UFO researchers that have been ongoing for years.
There is something big going on down there in Antarctica, and whatever it is the US military has the biggest presence.
Look up Operation DEEP FREEZE.

"Operation Deep Freeze I was the codename for a series of scientific expeditions to Antarctica in 1955-56. The impetus behind these expeditions was the International Geophysical Year 1957-58. IGY, as it was known, was a collaboration effort between forty nations to carry out earth science studies from the North Pole to the South Pole and at points in between. The United States, along with Great Britain, France, Japan, Norway, Chile, Argentina, and the U.S.S.R agreed to go the South Pole–the least explored area on Earth. Their goal: to advance world knowledge of Antarctic hydrography and weather systems, glacial movements, and marine life. The U.S. Navy was charged with supporting the U.S. scientists for their portion of the IGY studies.

The U.S. Navy already had a record of earlier exploration in Antarctica. As early as 1839, Captain Charles Wilkes led the first U.S. Naval expedition into Antarctic waters. In 1929, Admiral Richard E. Byrd established a naval base at Little America I, led an expedition to explore further inland, and conducted the first flight over the South Pole. From 1934-35, the second Byrd Expedition explored much further inland and also “wintered over.” The third Byrd Expedition in1940 charted the Ross Sea. After WWII, from 1946-47, Byrd was instrumental in the Navy’s Operation Highjump that charted most of the Antarctic coastline. In 1948 Commander Finn Ronne led an expedition that photographed over 450,000 square miles by air. Then, in 1954-55, the icebreaker U.S.S. Atka(AGB-3) made a scouting expedition for future landing sites and bays.

Operation Deep Freeze I would prepare a permanent research station and pave the way for more exhaustive research in later Deep Freeze operations. The expedition transpired over the Antarctic summer of November 1955 to April 1956."

USAF cargo flights take off every half hour from Auckland NZ to resupply American bases, which are numerous.
Its still going on!
